Notoginseng Radix et Rhizoma, Isatidis Radix, Verbenae Herba, Angelicae Sinenesis Radix and Sunflower are traditional Chinese medicine. This summer vacation, more than 180 students from the School of Pharmacy of Jiangsu University carried out the practice of returning home with the theme of "Herbal China, Looking for Chinese hundred herbs" in nearly 30 cities across the country.

This year is the fifth year of school of Pharmacy of Jiangsu University to carry out the practice of looking for drugs. The purpose of this practice activity is to fully integrate students' professional learning in the first class with the practice exercise in the second class, organically integrate ideological and political education and labor education in the school into the big class of social practice, actively cultivate high-quality talents with all-round development of morality, intelligence, physique, aesthetics and labor, and help students better understand their hometown and perceive China.

Li Yongting is a sophomore and her hometown is Huangzhong County, Xining City, Qinghai Province. Through this finding medicine activity, Li deeply experienced that medicine planting brought her hometown a huge change, it changed the traditional dependence on the cultivation of traditional crops such as wheat and potatoes. The large-scale cultivation of more than 20 kinds of Chinese and Tibetan medicinal materials such as Astragalus membranaceus (Fisch.) Bge., Angelica sinensis (Oliv.) Diels., Codonopsis pilosula (Franch.) Nannf., Rheum palmatum L., Bupleurum chinense DC., Lycium barbarum L.and Isatis indigotica Fort. had steadily increased the income of poor families and thoroughly cleaned the once impoverished villages. Many villages and towns had become excellent base for planting medicinal materials, and many Qinghai medicinal materials have transferred into other provinces and even abroad.

Cai Luyuan searched for medicine in Caoxue Village, Yuzhou City, Henan Province. After through a cornfield and 20 acres of Isatis indigotica Fort., 15 acres of Salvia Miltiorrhiza Bge. appeared. By looking up information online, Cai discovered that both the roots and leaves of Banlangen have high medicinal value. What’s more, she found that the cultivation of medicinal herbs had improved the economic situation of Caoxue village, and the rich profits of medicinal herbs had boosted the pockets of villagers through talking with villagers. To her surprise, the herbs were harvested by special machines instead of traditional labor. Cai said that many industries were at a loss during the epidemic, while the planting and sales of Banlangen were not affected and provided a guarantee for the prevention and control of the epidemic. Through this practice, Cai learned about the economic value, medicinal value and the planting situation of many medicinal materials, and had a deeper understanding of her major and hometown.

Many of the students at the School of Pharmacy of Jiangsu University live in remote mountainous areas. For the medicinal materials with local characteristics that students find, the college requires them to bring the drug samples back to school. After returning to school, professional teachers and students will conduct in-depth research on their ingredients by using the experimental conditions of the college, carry out innovative experiments, and combine drug search with scientific research to enhance students' interest in professional learning.

This summer, the students of School of Pharmacy of Jiangsu University are constantly understanding and experiencing the beauty of Chinese herbal medicine, the beauty of their hometown and the beauty of the motherland's mountains and rivers through searching for medicines. The activity is really helping them combine the knowledge they have learned in school with practice, feeling the value of pharmacy specialty in practice, and combine themselves with the construction of their hometown. After the holiday, the students will communicate with each other face to face about the feelings and discoveries brought by the summer trip of searching for medicines, and spread the traditional Chinese medicine culture while understanding the local conditions and customs of different parts of China.
