October 18, Prof.Hiroshi Uyama, professor of Osaka University of Japan, was invited to visit School of Pharmacy and gave a lecture entitled "Preparation of Functional Porous Materials by Phase Separation Method and Its Application". The lecture was hosted by Prof. Xu Ximing, Dean of School of Pharmacy, and nearly 100 teachers and students attended the lecture.

In his report, Prof. Uyama introduced a novel phase separation method to prepare a series of MONOLITH materials and their various applications including the purification of biological macromolecules. After the lecture, a lot of students discussed with Prof. Uyama and consulted the requirements of studying abroad.

Prof. Uyama started his research on enzyme-catalyzed polymerization in 1991, he is currently one of the international leaders in this research field.Then Prof. Uyamafocused the synthesis of functional biopolymers from vegetable oils. In addition,he also developed the nanoporous materials such as the preparation of polymer-based MONOLITH. At present, Prof. Uyama focuses on the renewable polymer materials, functional biomaterials and porous nano-materials. He has already published 175 related monographs and academic papers as well as 133 patents.
