To further strengthen environmental awareness among undergraduates, response to energy-Saving & emission-reduction proposed by government, encourage students to study and value environmental protection, as well as, to inspire students’ interest of learning English, and provide a platform to demonstrate their spoken English and presentation talent, the English speech contest ‘low-carbon environmental life advocating economic life’ was held in School of Pharmacy in Room 1201 in Pharmacy building on 31st March.
Overseas students were invited as judges. The contest included two sections: prepared speech and Q&A. For prepared speech, the given topic is ‘low-carbon environmental protection advocating economic life’. While during Q&A section, overseas students asked questions on hotspots of current environmental protection. All of the contestants showed that their English pronunciation was standard and expression in English was fluent and accurate. Most of them could use flowery and graceful language arranged with rich gestures, which got bursts of applause from the audience. Contestants gave their speeches in active atmosphere, were engaged in active discussion and learned from each other during discussion. This English speech contest lasted for two hours, and came to a satisfactory close. Xinyi Jiang won first prize. Mengting Jiang and Yajun Wei won second prize and Siqi Wang, Junxi Zhang and Qing Ma won third prize.
This English speech contest not only expressed all-around quality and spiritual outlook of undergraduates in school of pharmacy, but also improved English practical application ability of students. It would create conditions to cultivate comprehensive talents with excellent English skill and cross-cultural communication ability.
