In order to promote traditional Chinese medicine culture and improve the labor skills of college students, on the morning of May 20th, one of the Jiangsu University Labor Month series activities, "I Plant Herbs at Jiangsu University", sponsored by the Jiangsu University Labor Education Work Leading Group and organized by the School of Pharmacy and Jinghu Academy, kicked off at the Pharmacy Building. This event was hosted by Professor Tong Shanshan, Vice Dean of the School of Pharmacy. Two teachers, Fu Haizhen and Chen Hongxia, from the School of Pharmacy, gave lectures on the basic knowledge of traditional Chinese medicine. Other members of the Labor Education Practice Team of the School of Pharmacy followed and guided the entire process, with nearly 60 Chinese and foreign students from 7 colleges participating.

The activity started, and the teacher led the students to watch and learn how to identify Chinese herbs in the medicinal corridor of the School of Pharmacy. Afterwards, the participating students engaged in activities such as Chinese herbal flower and leaf rubbing, Chinese herbal insect repellent sachet making, and Banlangen planting. Chinese and foreign students studied and innovated in the same classroom while working, and created the "Jiangda Baicao Map" by combining rubbings of medicinal herbs in bursts of fragrance.

This activity not only allowed students to experience the joy of labor through practice, but also learned about Chinese herbal culture and strengthened their understanding of Chinese herbal medicine. "This activity not only let me know a lot of herbs, but also made me feel the charm of labor through practice,I really gained a lot." said Wang Qin, a 21st grade student majoring in pharmacy. Through learning, Chu Qijun, a 21st grade student majoring in Human Resources, has gained a deeper understanding of traditional Chinese medicine culture. "Through studying knowledge about traditional Chinese medicine, I understanded the research and development of traditional Chinese medicine, and strengthened my understanding of the treasures of Chinese culture." Oshi Chopra from the School of Overseas Education said that, through this event, he experienced the mysterious healing and health power hidden in the leaves, petals, and roots of herbs.

Tong Shanshan, Vice Dean of the School of Pharmacy, stated that teachers will encourage students to conduct field management and record the growth process of planted Banlangen, and deeply experience the process of labor and harvest.

For many years, the School of Pharmacy has closely combined the characteristics of its discipline to carry out labor practice education work, continuously deepening and solidifying, and exploring popular ways and contents of education for students. The "Cultivation of Chinese Herbal Medicine and Product Production" project was awarded the Special Prize for Excellent Practice Project in Labor Education in Jiangsu Province in 2022, and the "Labor Education Practice Team of the School of Pharmacy" was awarded the 9th Jiangsu University Youth Civilization Award in 2023. In the future, the college will continue to build a labor stage, expand the connotation of labor, provide regular labor resources for teachers and students, and carry out diverse campus cultural activities, making "Medicine Fragrance Jiangda" a beautiful scenery on campus.
