To advance the academic mentorship reform for undergraduates, systematically evaluate its outcomes, and address pedagogical challenges, the School of Pharmacy hosted a thematic seminar titled "New Phase of Academic Mentorship Reform: Challenges, Opportunities, and Student Needs" on April 2, 2024, in Room 1301. Attendees included Party Committee Secretary Liu Zhengxin, Vice Dean Shen Song, Deputy Party Committee Secretary and Vice Dean Wu Xinlei, along with all academic mentors and counselors from the 2024 cohort.

The thematic session addressed critical issues since the academic mentorship system's implementation. Teachers engaged in in-depth discussions on prevalent student challenges including gaming addiction, innovation development, and major changes. Homeroom teachers emphasized establishing academic goals through personalized counseling, interest cultivation, and professional orientation. Academic salons and research seminars were organized to ignite students' research passion, while one-on-one academic planning sessions provided targeted support for academically challenged students.
In her concluding remarks, Secretary Liu Zhengxin fully acknowledged the dedication of the class advisors. She stressed that class cohesion serves as the cornerstone of academic culture development, particularly during the freshman year, where advisors must act as "guides": 1) Enhance professional awareness education to strengthen students' sense of belonging; 2) Strengthen student management and service mechanisms, developing tiered intervention plans for issues arising in the educational process; 3) Introduce scientific innovation education early, leveraging the National Innovation and Entrepreneurship Program to cultivate academic interests and reduce haphazard major changes.
This seminar has provided new insights for the reform of the academic mentorship system. The School of Pharmacy will continue to advance innovative educational models, fostering the synchronous growth of students and the development of the college.
